FAQ Prosser, Connell and Hermiston, OR

Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive from our customers.

What do I do at the scene of an accident?

Whenever possible, obtain a police report, even if the damage appears minor. Repair costs can become expensive quickly and most insurances require a police report number in order to process a collision claim. If anyone is injured or you vehicle is not drivable, call 911.

In every collision in the State of Washington, drivers are legally required to exchange information with the other driver including, driver license numbers, full name, telephone number and insurance information. Make a note of the names and phone number of any witnesses and take photos of the damage, if it is safe to do so.

What do I do if I am going through insurance to have my vehicle repaired?

After a collision, call your insurance as soon as possible. Let them know you were and you need your vehicle repaired. Most insurance companies will ask you a few questions about what happened. The insurance will then provide you with a claim number. Just give Barajas Auto Body that claim number and let us handle it from there. (If you do not have the number to your insurance company's claims department, give us a call and we can help you find it.)

What should I look for in auto body repair shop when I need auto body repair?

A reputable auto body shop will provide an accurate cost estimate and a reasonable time frame for completing the repairs. Clarify the terms of your guarantee for repair work. Look for a body shop that can and will explain what repairs they intend to do to your car. And, ensure that whatever body shop you choose has a good working relationship with the insurance companies. Body shops that do not work with insurance may not be held to as high of a standard for quality or timeliness.

Should I contact my own insurance company even if the accident was not my fault?

Yes. Notify your insurance company in the event of an accident. They can help speed up a claim no matter who is at fault. Most insurances offer "accident forgiveness" or similar programs that will not increase your rates if an accident is not your fault. Barajas Auto Body provides assistance with processing your insurance claim(s) once your vehicle is under our care.

Do I need an appointment for an estimate?

No! If you are able to do so, we appreciate a call ahead so we know to expect you but, appointments are not required. Please plan on approximately 20-30 minutes so that we can provide you with the most accurate estimate possible.

Also, please be prepared with your contact information and your insurance claim number. Do not attempt to drive your vehicle if it is unsafe to do so. If your vehicle is not drivable, submit an estimate request online and we will send you an estimate via email. Or, Barajas Auto Body can help you arrange a tow to get your vehicle to our shop

Do I have to take my vehicle to the auto body shop suggested by my insurance company?

No. Your insurance cannot require you to go (or not go) to a certain repair facility.
